Under the direct supervision of the Program Assistant, the Training Officer I is responsible for organizing, developing, coordinating, and conducting training programs of average complexity and for conducting a major segment of the facility's complex training program.
The Training Officer I directs training activities for the facility, ensures that training goals are achieved through consultation, and directly conducts training courses and conferences within the scope of training. Typical training programs include but are not limited to: top and middle management development, comprehensive supervisory training, individual employee development plans, professional and technical training, specialized training, and comprehensive orientation programs. Uses Equally Effective Communication in accordance to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and the Armstrong and Clark Remedial Plans to ensure communication with individuals with disabilities is equally effective as with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience applicable to one of the following patterns may be combined on a proportional basis with experience applicable to the other pattern to meet the total experience requirements, provided that the combined qualifying experience totals at least 30 months. Education may not be used to reduce this 30-month limit.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Promotional candidates who are within six months of satisfying the experience requirement for this class will be admitted to the examination, but they must fully meet the experience requirement before being eligible for appointment.

Special Requirements
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
