About the job

FWS Forestry California LLC, is looking to hire an experienced Forestry Manager for the 170,000-acre Shasta Cascades Timberlands. The manager is responsible for coordinating the timber harvest planning and permitting activities to meet the planned harvest volume needs for the next 3 to 5 years. The Forestry Program Manager will work collaboratively with the Logging Operations Manager to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the program.


Responsibilities

  • Performs THP layout including determining silviculture systems, identifying, and flagging watercourse zones, special treatment zones and unit boundaries, timber marking, assessing and documenting road conditions, assess wildlife and fisheries habitat, and other THP field related tasks.
  • Conduct archaeological surveys and complete Confidential Archaeological Addendums to THPs.
  • Write and submit THPs, CDFW Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreements and Waste Discharge permits associated with forestry.
  • ArcGIS mapping and analysis.
  • Manage projects and create project schedules.
  • Supervise THP contractors to ensure the THP preparation follows the California Forest Practice Rules as well as ensuring that the written documentation and field work is complete, consistent and clear
  • Direct forestry technicians, as needed.
  • Manage the monitoring and documentation and reporting of both WQCB water quality reports and CADFW Master Agreement for Timber Operations.
  • May be called on to oversee and administer vegetation and reforestation projects as needed.
  • Other field and office assignments associated with professional forestry services.


Requirements

  • Education level: BS degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or equivalent
  • California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or 5-years of experience and a commitment to sit for the RPF exam shortly after hire
  • Knowledge and experience with California Forest Practice Rules, THP preparation and layout and working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • Field experience in harvest planning, reforestation, thinning and vegetation management
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS software, data management and mapping as well as experience with GPS
  • Passion for the forestry profession
  • Strong work ethic, dedication and ability to think creatively
  • Open mind and readiness to learn from experienced foresters
