WHAT WILL YOU DO:
The primary function of a Social Worker is to take referrals for serious abuse and neglect; Investigate referrals; Interview customers to ascertain nature of problems and develop service plans; Substantial amount of the work performed is conducted in the field with majority performed in office writing court reports and case plans with time sensitive and legal deadlines; and enters data into computer systems in order to comply with legal and agency deadlines.

Will work closely with team members of the Agency, community partners, and extended family members and will have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organization skills, ability to prioritize tasks, maintain calm and professional performance and demonstrate exceptional customer service working with client populations that have substance dependence, mental health, trauma, or domestic violence history.
Examples of Duties
AS A SOCIAL WORKER YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO: Carry a caseload of child welfare service cases; provides crisis intervention to reduce the risk to the child; observes child's developmental progress and determines best methods of dealing with behavioral problems; assists family members in resolving marital, financial, or other particular problems related to abuse; may provide specialized case services in child sexual abuse or children's group work; refer clients to other agencies and community resources; may advise parents on problems of child custody; arrange for foster home placement of children; may provide court testimony in child abuse or neglect cases; prepare case records and written reports as required; prepare and present juvenile court petitions within specified time limitations.

Social Workers may work with Foster Parents to ensure proper placements; assists to resolve issues and conflicts which may arise in the home setting; encourages poster parents to support and work with natural parents. It is important to understand that the actions you take as a Social Worker affect the lives of clients and their families.

Controversial Issues: You may be required to take actions that conflict with your own values. A Social Worker must be able to accept customers' differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.
Education, Experience & Licenses
Pattern 1: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;

OR

Pattern 2: Successful completion of thirty (30) college semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units from an accredited college or university, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and a half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or other social or behavioral science*;

AND

One (1) year of full-time experience in the Social Service Aide, Eligibility Specialist II, Employment and Training Worker II or comparable classification; OR Three (3) years of full-time experience providing direct client services to disadvantaged adults or children in a private or public agency.

*Examples of acceptable social or behavioral science courses include: anthropology, criminal justice, education, ethnic studies, history, human development, human services, law, nursing, nutrition, psychology, public health, social welfare, sociology, welfare, women's studies.
In addition to the education and experience requirements specified in the Merit Systems/Cooperative Personnel Services classification specification, Tehama County requires:
License & Special Requirements:

  • Requires a valid California Class C driver's license.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

*Rates listed in this flyer represent a full-time employee's accrual rate and health insurance premium rate. Part-time employees will have pro-rated accruals and health insurance premium rates based on the number of hours they work.

SALARY:
  • Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).

HEALTH:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
  • Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.

PAID LEAVES:
  • Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
    • 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
    • 96 hours of sick leave
    • 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:
  • Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.

RETIREMENT:
  • A retirement plan through CalPERS.
    • CalPERS Formulas:
      • Classic member = 2% @ 55
      • New Member = 2% @ 62
  • A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
