Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of the largest human services providers in California that operates a variety of programs to serve the poor and strives to find permanent solutions to crisis situations by offering clients the tools and resources needed to achieve greater self-reliance and stability in their lives.
St. Margaret's Center is a community center of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles in the Inglewood area of Los Angeles. The Center provides a comprehensive range of services for low-income and unhoused populations: food programs, services for individuals/families experiencing homelessness, education programs, health and wellness services and social support programs. Staff ranges from 18-22 members, and dozens of regular volunteers. An average of 10,000 participants receive approximately 50,000 services each year. The Program Director manages all aspects of the center, including program development, financial management, resource development, strategic planning, quality improvement, program operations and assessment. Supervises the work of leadership employees, and oversees work of all staff, interns and volunteers.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Directs and supervises leadership staff including a Program Development Director and Homeless Services and Community Services Managers. May supervise custodial and temporary staff.
- Supervises program staff responsible for implementation of programs and maintenance of program records in accordance with approved standards and practices.
- Seeks funding for and plans staff development opportunities.
- Promotes continuous quality improvement and service delivery that is aligned with the Agency's mission.
- Implements strategic planning, including community assessments and planning with Advisory Board, Regional Director and leadership staff.
- Cooperates with agency staff on accreditation work.
Program Management & Implementation
- Plans, organizes and conducts approved programs in accordance with official directives and applicable contract provisions and government regulations.
- Implements program policies and procedures to ensure contractual and legal compliance as well as program performance standards.
- Evaluates all programming at center for effectiveness, response to community needs and fiscal health.
- Plans and implements center's annual Christmas Program in coordination with the Community Services Manager and Advisory Board committee .
Finance & Operations
- Responsible for the center's fiscal and human resources implementation.
- Prepares annual budget and tracks center's financial health.
- Approves all expenses and submits or prepares required reports and paperwork.
- Ensures that facility is well maintained and repairs are scheduled as needed, and supplies purchased.
Development & Fundraising
- Works with Development Director on grant applications and reports, as well as annual appeals and fundraising events.
- Plans and schedules meetings with center's Advisory Board, and helps recruit members for the Board. Works with board committees on projects related to fundraising, events and recruitment.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Maintains liaison with key governmental, non-profit agency and community leaders in the region.
- Participates in local advocacy and community groups, and meets with partners, churches, and community groups as needed.
- Advocates for services for low-income and marginalized communities with local politicians and funders. Speaks and presents program at local community events.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other agencies and community groups.
Education and/or Experience
- Master's degree in a related field. Five to seven years of related experience including three years in a supervisory position.
Knowledge:
- Administrative principles and their application.
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
- Budget preparation and management.
- Strategic planning experience and application.
- Fundraising techniques and grant writing.
- Community social service resources and government programs.
- Applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Appropriate handbooks and reference materials.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.
- Catholic Charities' policies, procedures and organization.
