Position Information

The full salary range for the Campus Fire Inspector is $73,600 - $133,200 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is from $73,600 - $100,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Under the general supervision of the Lead Designated Campus Fire Marshal, the incumbent is responsible for performing professional duties related to fire and life safety, as part of a multi-disciplinary professional/technical staff. The Campus Fire Inspector ensures that the campus is in compliance with State codes and regulations applicable to fire safety buildings and equipment, including Titles 8, 9, 19, 24, et.al. of the California Code of Regulation. In addition, the incumbent will ensure compliance with applicable national standards related to fire safety including the National Fire Protection Association Standards. Performs required inspections of fire extinguishing systems on Campus, including but not limited to: automatic fire sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, standpipe systems, fixed extinguishing systems, and fire protective signaling systems. Performs annual Title 19 building safety inspections and Title 24 new construction inspections. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

• Thorough knowledge/understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.
• Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.
• Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.
• Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.
• Advanced working knowledge of Title 24 or Title 19, California Code of Regulations, California Building Code, California Fire Code, and National Fire Protection Association Standards. Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and Local laws, codes, regulations including EPA regulations pertaining to hazardous materials management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of fire inspection and code enforcement.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of the fire prevention and suppression services program development and administration.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the principles and methods of fire prevention education.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression theory and their application to a wide variety of situations.
• Basic Fire Plan Review experience.
