Our client is a large Public Agency based in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Accounting Department would like to add the support of a Sr. Accountant for approximately 6-months. The basic function of this position is to provide support to various sections of the Accounting department such as the General Ledger/Financial Reporting, Project Accounting/Grants Billing, Fixed Assets, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable. The temporary senior accountant may be assigned to any of these sections depending on where the candidate's experience and skills are most beneficial to LACMTA. The ideal candidate will be organized and approach each issue with an analytical mindset.

The Senior Accountant will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. This is a W2 status contract position.

Start times are between 7:30 to 8:30. End times are between 4:30 to 5:30. Base office location is at the LACMTA headquarters at One Gateway Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

In accordance with LACMTA's Conflict of Interest Code for the disclosures, contract staff will be required to review and complete Statements of Economic Interest, Conflict of Interest, and Code of Conduct Certifications at the time of placement at LACMTA.

The position may be eligible to telecommute up to four (4) days a week based on business need and subject to approval of the designated LACMTA supervisor.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum Qualification Requirements: The senior accountant must meet the following qualification requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and/or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred but not required. Other related certifications are desirable.
  • Three years of relevant experience in accounting performing closing activities, financial analysis, or financial reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the following are preferred but not required:

  • Oracle based FIS System, TeamMate, and other accounting related software applications.
  • Advanced excel functionalities such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and logical formulas in compiling and analyzing data to provide financial information to management.
  • Working with either government or private agencies that utilize accounting software for recording and reporting financial information in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and/or Governmental Accounting Standards used in the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities of Temporary Senior Accountants:

Duties may include, but are not limited to performing the following tasks and activities for one or more of the following sections of the Accounting Department: General Ledger/Financial Reporting, Project Accounting/Grants Billing, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Accounts Receivable:

  • Prepares schedules, records, and analyzes financial transactions.
  • Reviews and validates the accuracy of financial statements and reports.
  • Analyzes complex grant funding agreements, bond issues, and other financial contractual agreements.
  • Prepares billing and draw down packages to Federal, State, and local funding sources.
  • Prepares financial reports in compliance with federal, state, and local governmental agencies requirements and/or contractual agreements including but not limited to Federal Financial Reports (FFRs), payroll returns, 1099s, use tax returns:
  • Prepares financial reports using accounting software as needed.
  • Monitors, reviews, and analyzes financial data, including reconciliation of bank and general ledger accounts.
  • Preparing computations, worksheets, and journal entries for accruals of expenses, revenues, and other account adjustments.
  • Providing support and assisting in complying with various audit requests in relation to the various audits related to the agency's operations, programs and financial statements, including, but not limited to, audits of the agency's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report ACFR) and SEFA.
  • Assisting in preparing ACFR's footnote disclosure notes and statistical tables.
