Description
Under direction, dispatches assigned staff; schedules work; arranges outages; manages equipment; performs material forecasting; prepares performance reviews; reviews work orders; coordinates rental equipment; checks time sheets for accuracy; prepares daily crew location sheets; monitors safety program and operational procedures and assists with changes as required; recommends training as needed for field forces; writes switch order requests and reviews switch orders; assists in the coordination of trenching contractor work; and recommends system improvements.
We are looking for someone to
- Supervise assigned staff.
- Coordinate Electric Utility trouble activities as needed.
- Coordinate inspections, repairs, audits, and pre-check work orders.
- Resolve field problems with assigned staff.
- Pre-plan and post check disconnects, switching, inspection grids and work orders for proper construction.
- Write specifications for use in bidding for tools and/or purchasing work equipment for use by the Electric Utility.
- Verify and authorize time sheets.
- Verify inspections, data entry/as-builts/mapping corrections, meter set information, field tags, USA's and switch logs.
Qualifications we're looking for- Knowledge of day-to-day field operation activities of an electric utility
- Knowledge of General Orders 95, 128 and 165
- Knowledge of utility operating and construction methods
- Knowledge of labor contracts
- Knowledge of duties of all employees supervised
- Knowledge of switching procedures
- Knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations
- Ability to interact effectively with the public, other utility and City personnel
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in a written manner
- Ability to demonstrate supervision skills
- Ability to understand the operation of field equipment, test equipment and procedures
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements: - Typical education would include an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline or extensive vocational education in electric utility operations and management.
- Typical experience would include holding the rating of Journeyman Lineman for at least six years and must have a readily verifiable record of progressively more responsible job assignments. Two years supervisory, GIS and computer experience desirable.
- Possession of a valid California driver=s license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Holidays:
An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.
Vacation: Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.
Sick Leave: Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.
Health Insurance: Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.
Retirement: Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System
.
Administrative Leave: Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.
Deferred Compensation Plans: Available for interested employees.
Union Dues: Job classifications in the unrepresented group do not pay union dues.
Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program: Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
SDI: Unrepresented positions do not participate in SDI.
