Assistant City Attorney I Salary Range: $131,820 - $171,372

Assistant City Attorney II Salary Range: $145,548 - $189,228

The City Attorney's Office is seeking a new Assistant City Attorney I/II to provide legal support to the City Council and leadership, draft ordinances and contracts, and represent the City in labor matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of municipal government, law, and risk management, as well as excellent communication skills!

We are looking for someone to:

?? Confer with and advise City departments concerning their respective duties, powers, functions, and obligations

??Research legal problems and prepare opinions, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, permits, and other legal documents

??Represent the City in court cases encompassing a wide variety of subject matters

??Represent the City in administrative hearings before City boards and commissions, and state and federal agencies.

Skills we are looking for:

Knowledge of :

• Civil and administrative procedure;
• Effective techniques in the presentation of court cases
• Judicial procedures and rules of evidence
• Principles, methods, and techniques of legal research and investigation
• Responsibilities and obligations of public officials and administrative agencies

Ability to:

• Define issues, perform legal research, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound recommendations.
• Present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically
• Exercise sound, independent judgment within general policy guidelines and legal parameters.

Qualifications:

??A minimum of five years of experience as an attorney engaged in the practice of civil law, preferably in a municipal setting,

??One year of supervisory experience.

??Current member of the California State Bar Association.
