CASCADE UNION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT Position Description TITLE: Behavior Intervention Assistant REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education CLASSIFICATION: Classified WORK YEAR: 183 Days BOARD APPROVAL: March 14, 2013 SALARY: CSEA/Range 4 BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education will provide consultation to Cascade Union Elementary School District regarding positive behavioral support and classroom management; assist instructional personnel in the implementation of behavioral support plans; participate as a member of the educational team to design and supervise implementation of classroom programs for students with behavioral issues. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

* Assist staff in implementation of Behavior Plans

* Implement, model and help train district staff on behavior strategies

* Consult and collaborate with site staff

* Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate

* Maintain appropriate documentation and records

* Work with staff in developing data collection systems, and monitor data collection to ensure the success of the behavior plan

* Support students in existing placement and through transition into new education placements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be: EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum of three years prior experience working in an education setting implementing intensive behavioral intervention programs for students with complex and/or severe behavioral problems

EDUCATION:

* Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

* A.A. Degree or higher, two years college, and/or passing grade on a state or local assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be able to become certified by the ProAct non-violent crisis interventions.

* Valid California driver license, insurance, and own reliable transportation

* First Aid and CPR training desirable

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of:

* Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics, particularly pertaining to pupils with special learning needs;

* Behavior management strategies and techniques relating to pupils experiencing behavioral difficulties;

* Positive behavioral interventions

* Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar;

* Basic arithmetical concepts; and

* Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures.

Ability to:

* Work with student having special needs;

* Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups, and varied disabilities;

* Appropriately manage student behavior and guide student toward more acceptable social behaviors;

* Implement positive behaviors support plans,

* Model appropriate behavioral interventions;

* Gather record behavioral data

* Communicate effectively in oral and written form;

* Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment;

* Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment;

* Understand and carry out oral and written directions; and

* Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.

WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

* Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 50 to 75 pounds of

force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work involves sitting, but may involve running, walking, or standing for brief periods.

* Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, providing

oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Must have AA Degree or successfully passed the Shasta County Instructional Aide Proficiency Test, which meets the NCLB requirements, at the 70th percentile or above in each area: Reading, Language, Math. Pro-Act Training a plus. Ability to pass a physical exam,Clear TB test and background fingerprint check.

Must have expirence as a para educator if no experience will be placed as a Para 3 until probation is met and necessary trainings are obtained.

Comments and Other Information

Physical Demands of the Job: Lift up to 50 lbs., i.e. toileting. Move students for safety and/or transition times. Must sit, kneel, squat, crawl for extended periods of time throughout the day, and move quickly to address student behavior.
