Salary (A-E Steps)
Behavioral Health Clinician I:
$33.59 - $40.83 Hourly / $2,687.20- $3,266.40 Biweekly
Behavioral Health Clinician II:
$37.08 - $45.07 Hourly / $2,966.40 - $3,605.60 Biweekly
Bilingual Incentive!
Bilingual Incentive Pay is +7.5% above the BHC I or BHC II base salary.
About the Position: Incumbents in this class carry a clinical caseload and utilize clinical knowledge and skills to conduct biopsychosocial assessments, create treatment plans, and lead multi-disciplinary treatment teams in providing therapeutic and rehabilitative behavioral health services to high-risk clients.
Examples of Duties
- May coordinate or evaluate program service delivery systems.
- Provides mental health assessment, service plan development and ongoing therapy to clients of the Health Services Agency.
- Serves as a member of various teams as needed to assist in screening clients and in making and documenting triage decisions.
- Bilingual Candidates: Translates, interprets and otherwise communicates with members of the Spanish speaking community.

Education, Experience & Licenses Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling
• Experience working with individuals with mental health issues is preferred
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered
License & Special Requirements: - Requires a valid California driver's license
- Must possess, or be willing to obtain, a national provider identifier (NPI)
- May be required to successfully complete an extensive and thorough law enforcement background investigation.
Must complete periodic continuing education coursework as required to maintain active licensure or registration.
BHC I must possess one of the following:
- A Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work that qualifies for an Associate Clinical Social Worker and possess a registration certificate with a number as an associate registered through the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as specified in Business and Professions (B&P) Code Section 4996.18 and follow required supervision guidelines. Requires possession of valid State of California certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker within six years of date of registration. Failure to obtain certification as outlined will result in the incumbent becoming disqualified for further employment as a Behavioral Health Clinician I.
- A Master's Degree that qualifies for an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist and possess a registration certificate with a number as an associate registered through the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as specified in Business and Professions (B&P) Code Section 4980.44 and follow required supervision guidelines. Requires possession of valid State of California license as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist within six years of date of registration. Failure to obtain licensure as outlined will result in the incumbent becoming disqualified for further employment as a Behavioral Health Clinician I.
- A Master's Degree that qualifies for an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and possess a registration certificate with a number as an associate registered through the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as specified in Business and Professions (B&P) Code Section 4999.42 and follow required supervision guidelines. Requires possession of valid State of California license as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor within six years of date of registration. Failure to obtain licensure as outlined will result in the incumbent becoming disqualified for further employment as a Behavioral Health Clinician I.
Behavioral Health Clinician II:
- Must possess a California license as a Clinical Social Worker, a Marriage and Family Therapist, or a Professional Clinical Counselor through the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners.
BILINGUAL CANDIDATES: • Must pass a Merit Systems Services written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or other appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.
Recruitment Information The department currently has multiple vacancies In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Behavioral Health Clinician I/II or a Behavioral Health Clinician I/II - Bilingual, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Testing Dates: November 20-24, 2025. Testing will be provided via email.
Tentative Interview Date(s): 1st- Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
2nd- Monday, December 8, 2025 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
*Only the most qualified candidates will be invited to interview.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

SALARY: - Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH: - Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES: - Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
- 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE: - Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.
RETIREMENT: - A retirement plan through CalPERS.
