Position Overview
Director, Product Management – Consumables at Tandem Diabetes Care is responsible for leading development and optimization of consumables for Tandem's pump portfolio, managing external and internal infusion sets, cartridge, and P&L during portfolio transformation. The role collaborates across the organization with R&D, Program Management, Clinical and Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations, Human Factors, User Experience, Finance, and Marketing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the team defining, launching, and managing Tandem's internal consumables programs.
- Define strategies and priorities, evolving informed strategy and roadmap.
- Act as internal champion and primary contact for consumables roadmap and strategy questions.
- Establish clinical key opinion leaders, research collaborators, policy makers, and regulatory bodies to build a strong network.
- Identify market needs and user requirements, gathering VOC information and creating plans for new product development supported by business cases.
- Create short, medium, and long‑term roadmaps for project prioritization and investment.
- Work with Clinical Affairs and Regulatory Affairs on coordinated approaches to clinical studies and regulatory requirements.
- Engage downstream product marketing, sales, and customer care for go‑to‑market strategies, including training for HCPs and patients.
- Collaborate with external partners to deliver product and strategic objectives.
- Represent the company at medical conferences, sales meetings, and customer visits.
- Monitor product implications of competitive activity, market drivers, KPIs, and external constraints.
- Support short‑term planning: headcount, budgeting, training, and systems.
- Maintain long‑term forecasts for existing and new products.
- Participate in selection, development, appraisal, merit recommendation, and promotion of staff.
- Ensure staff training per designated training plan.
- Develop and manage schedules and performance requirements of staff.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 12 years of related experience in product management, product development, and/or product planning.
- 7 years of experience leading teams with visibility to senior management.
- Direct experience delivering commercial products, ideally consumer‑facing medical devices.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent.
- Preferred: Degrees in engineering, information technology, data science, or health sciences.
- Considered: Degrees in product management, business administration, economics, mathematics, or related fields.
- Experience educating and interacting with physicians and clinical stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of product management, strategic planning, and product development process for connected medical devices, with Agile and waterfall experience.
- Experience delivering integrated systems across hardware and software.
- Understanding of clinical and regulatory processes in FDA‑regulated environments.
- Ability to distill complex requirements into simple concepts.
- Excellent communication with engineering and non‑technical users.
- Curiosity, problem‑solving skills, and strong business sense.
- Skill creating clear vision and expectations to align resources.
- Proven ability to operate in matrixed environments and influence across layers.
- Knowledge of clinical, regulatory, reimbursement, product development, marketing, operations, quality, UX, and financial planning.
- Deep data analytics capabilities.
- Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office, CRM, proprietary databases.
Preferred
- Master's degree or MBA.
- Advanced marketing or data science training.
- Experience in the diabetes industry.
Compensation & Benefits
Starting base pay range: $190,000 - $215,000 annually. Base pay varies based on knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Includes bonus and a robust benefits package.
Location & Work Arrangement
Mix of in‑office at corporate headquarters, Del Mar, CA, and remote. Expected in‑office as needed.
