Director of College & Young Adult Ministries

Purpose

To create gatherings and activities within the context of Bidwell Presbyterian Church that enable college students at Chico State and Butte College to become a community of fully alive disciples of Jesus Christ within the family of God. To develop volunteers, manages organizational responsibilities, such as communications with church, creating events and team building.

Status

Part Time Position, 25 hrs. weekly, benefits include sick pay, disability, and life insurance offering.

Supervision

The Director of College & Young Adult ministries will be under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.

Evaluation 

Evaluations will occur after 90 days and on a quarterly basis going forward.

Qualifications

  1. Identifies as a Christian and is committed to both communal and personal Christian spiritual practices including but not limited to corporate worship, prayer, Scripture, and service. 
  2. Desires to discern and submit to God's will in relationships, identity formation, and vocation. 
  3. Understands and desires to practice the central aspects of God's mission: compassion, justice, and evangelism.
  4. Capacity for project management including long-term planning, galvanizing others, and time-sensitive completion of tasks.
  5. At least two years of experience as a student in a university or college context. 
  6. Experience with social media platforms like Instagram or similar formats.
  7. Capacity for learning church/business software programs.

Responsibilities

  1. Create and implement inclusive, community life gatherings on behalf of college students at Chico State and Butte College within the context of Bidwell Presbyterian Church (BPC).
  2. Greet and connect with college students and young adults during BPC Sunday services. (Possible addition of evening service in the future).
  3. Greet and connect with college students and young adults during midweek gatherings including but not limited to Wednesday night classes and/or midweek bible studies or small groups. 
  4. Initiate meetings with college students in order to practice empathy and/or spiritual direction.
  5. Facilitate and lead a midweek Bible study in collaboration with a BPC lay member or staff member from an older generation. 
  6. Utilize social media to announce and celebrate the events and people connected with the BPC college ministry. 
  7. Meet with the University and Career 20 (UC20) ministry committee monthly. 
  8. Meet with the Senior Pastor/Pastor of College and Young Adult Ministry every other week for prayer and guidance. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands. The work environment is one of an office with controlled temperature. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
