JOB TITLE: School Nurse

WORK YEAR: Full time: 7 hours per day/11 months/183 days annually

(Days prorated upon date of hire)

START DATE: As soon as possible after interview

SALARY: Salary Schedule 4, $218.47-$440.14 daily,

Placement dependent on education and experience.

Stipend for Doctorate $500 annually.

Placement on salary schedule is dependent upon how many years of full time certificated experience you have, as well as your level of education above and beyond your Bachelor’s Degree.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services; perform the duties of school nurse.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (May include, but is not limited to the following.)

  1. Conduct vision, dental, scoliosis, and blood pressure screening; cooperate with speech therapist in hearing screening; and initiate referral to specialist where indicated. Maintain a health record on each student (K-12), and communicate pertinent information to school team.

  2. Obtain developmental and medical history on student for special education programs.

  3. Participate in screening and placement committees for special programs.

  4. Serve as liaison between school, home, community agencies and doctors.

  5. Provide health counseling and guidance to students, parents and staff.

  6. Participate and cooperate with the Public Health Department in State mandated programs.

  7. Serve as resource person and consult in areas of health education.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Must hold current RN certificate.

  2. Hold or qualify for California credential authorizing services as a school nurse. Please see statement at the end of this announcement regarding the credentialing requirements.

  • School Nurse Services Credential (authorization code R52N)

  • Health Services Credential with School Nurse Authorization (authorization code R52A)
