JOB TITLE: Child Development Associate Teacher – Oakdale Heights Children’s Center

WORK YEAR: Full time: 7.5 hours per day/11 Months/181 days (Prorated at time of hire)

START DATE: As soon as possible after interviews

SALARY: Salary Schedule 04H, Range 4, $16.01 to $18.79 per hour. Stipend for Master's $1,200 annually or Doctorate $2,000 annually.

Newly hired personnel will be placed on the salary schedule applicable to their position based on verified years of experience of like licensed or permitted employment.

DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Direct Service Coordinator and the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Teacher, the Child Development Associate Teacher will assist staff in the implementation of a high quality, comprehensive and developmentally appropriate child care and development program meeting the individual needs of young children and their families. The Associate Teacher will supervise and interact with children as positive role models, promoting learning experiences and assist other staff. They will implement curriculum and scheduled activities and provide input regarding activity content. Additionally, they will interact with parents and participate in child assessment through observation recording.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: [May include, but are not limited to the following]

1. Assist in the implementation of elements of a high quality early childhood education program to meet the developmental needs of individual children.

2. Interact with children, facilitate learning and support children in their overall development

3. Recognize, assess, and contribute to the assessment of children’s individual developmental levels; record anecdotal observations.

4. Interact with parents sharing information and supporting their involvement and needs.

5. Promote and maintain a clean, safe environment for children including cleaning.

6. Assume the responsibility of an absent teacher and prepare in advance as needed.

7. Embrace and participate in supplementary support service programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:

1. Display interest in and open acceptance of children and their families.

  1. Work effectively with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
  2. Apply principles and practices of child development and early childhood education.
  3. Assume role and responsibilities of the Teacher during absences.
  4. Demonstrate reliable, punctual, and stable working style in performance of assignments.
  5. How to insure children’s success and learning.
  6. Principles of confidentiality, collaboration and professionalism.
  7. Understanding of diverse families and their needs and ways to support them.
  8. Work productively with independent initiative.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

1. Child Development Associate Credential; or

2. Child Development Associate Teacher permit; or

3. Qualify for a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit

4. First Aid and CPR certified. (Required within 90 days of hire)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Primarily works in indoor school or playground environment with furniture and equipment built to accommodate 3 year

old and 4 year old preschool children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. To comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all new employees must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.

  2. FINGERPRINTING FOR CONDUCTING A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION IS REQUIRED and completed upon offer of employment.

  4. Upon onboarding it will be required to present a copy of TB Clearance

  5. Pediatric 1st Aide/CPR certificates required within 90 days of employment which must include 1 hour of Health and Safety Training. (requirement as of January 1, 2016)

    CHILD DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE TEACHER PERMIT

    AUTHORIZATION:

    A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit authorizes the holder to provide service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program, and supervise a Child Development Assistant Permit holder.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Option 1 [Both of (a) and (b) below]

  1. Completion of a minimum of twelve semester units of course work in early childhood education/child development (exclusive of field work) including at least one course in each of the following core areas:

    • child/human growth and development;

    • child, family and community, or child and family relations;

    • programs/curriculum

  2. Fifty days of experience in an instructional capacity in a child care and development program, working at least three hours per day within the last two years. (Experience may include paid and/or volunteer work.)

    TERM AND RENEWAL:

    A Child Development Associate Teacher Permit is issued for five years and may only be renewed once. In order to renew the Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, the applicant must complete at least fifteen semester units toward the Child Development Teacher Permit. At the end of the ten year period, the applicant must meet all requirements for a Child Development Teacher Permit.
